With the Russian bear, which provides a third of European gas requirements, flexing its muscles again in the Ukraine, companies such as Smart Metering Systems, which improve efficiencies in the UK gas supply chain, continue to be in vogue with  the shares surging to a new high of 415p. Results were also strong with revenues, EBITDA and eps rising 33%, 31% and 52% respectively to £27.9m, £11.8m and 7.9p. The original gas infrastructure business, where it installs the meter and connecting pipeline infrastructure on behalf of large energy suppliers such as BP and Gazprom, increased sales 19% to £14.1m and gross profit by 6% to £6.6m.
