Smart Metering Services - 2020 deadline for households to have smart meters

With potential power cuts on the horizon due to lack of new power stations coming on stream to replace ageing ones, the Government has introduced a deadline for all 27m domestic UK households to have gas and electricity smart meters in their homes by 2020. Little wonder then that shares in Smart Metering Systems (SMS), which installs meters and pipeline infrastructure and also manages meters on behalf of energy suppliers mainly on behalf of domestic customers, have raced towards all-time highs.SMS’ final results saw revenues rising 27% whilst pretax profit and eps both increased 59% to £18.9m and 18.4p, respectively.While the asset installation side rose 11% to £19.5m the keynote was that the meter asset man ...
