Abcam plays a very important role in the fight against cancer, alzheimers and other diseases, via the sale of its research grade antibodies to scientists. This sector is growing at a 5-10% annual clip and by selling its wares via an online catalogue, costs are low and profitability high. Such a model has seen its eps rise from 1.7p in 2005 to 22.4p in FY’16 and latest interim results, which showed sales, pretax and eps climbing 30%, 20% and 33% respectively to £103m, £25.1m and 12.9p, show this record is likely to be extended.Sales growth was across the board with the Americas increasing 30% to £40m, Europe, Middle East and Africa 23% to £26.8m and Japan 47% to £7.8m.
