Very occasionally at The Momentum Investor we come across a share where we have little inclination to sell because their prospects are so superlative. One example is Burford Capital, which we originally wrote about last June at 731p. Burford lends money to law firms or large corporates in order to fund complex legal cases. In the bad old days when a company wanted to sue another it would have to front all its legal fees (these days top London lawyers can charge £1,000 / hour) while not knowing how long the whole process might take. But Burford’s litigation funding has effectively enabled an explosion in contingent “no win no fee” or “no win low fee” cases where a client shares the winnings with the law ...
