As we forecast in last month’s main write-up, New Look announced that it was experiencing extremely strong trading in itsupdate on 3 October.  Like-for-like sales were up 8.7%  inthe 26 weeks to 28 September, with gross margin 2.2% higher.  As aresult, the group  increased its guidance for the first half to apretax profit of £44m, against previous broker forecasts of c.£38m.   New Look remains the star in the clothing retailsector which appears to have brushed off an unseasonal warm snap inSeptember. Broker, Numis, has upgraded  its pretax profit forecast for2003 to £80m (previously £71.1m) and earnings to 25.2p (22.8p). For 2004 it is now pencilling in £87m and 27.6p.   ...
