Alexon - Redeems £20m preference shares

Shares in clothing and shoe retailer, Alexon, our main write-up in March 2002, have really caught fire in the last eight months and now stand 89% ahead of our tip.  The catalyst was yet another strong trading performance, as well as news that Alexon will be redeeming its high interest bearing preference shares at the end of October.   Forthe six months ended 26 July, Alexon posted a 14.8% increase in profitto £11.2m, with earnings up 15.7% to 12.3p on a lower than expected 28% tax charge.  The Alexon brand, which caters for the older woman,  was the engine room, with its profit rising from £9.1m to £10m, following a 3% rise in like for like sales and 3% increase in store space.  Shoe chain, Dolcis continued its rehabilitation by m ...
