Investors are becoming increasingly enchanted with the potential forbig hitting oil and gas discoveries in Algeria, with one estimate putting this OPEC member's proven reserves at almost 38 billion barrelsof oil equivalent (boe). Algeria found its first oil in 1956 but has been something of a late developer in terms of exploiting that potential, although in recent years it has been more aggressive in inviting big overseas oil firms such as BP, to invest the infrastructure necessary to recover it.
