Chemring has announced the bolt-on £9m acquisition of Dorset-based BDL, a manufacturer of radio frequency initiators and hard wired exploders used for the remote detonation of demolition charges for bomb disposal. However, the main reason why the shares surged to an all-time high of 1632p was news that its core countermeasures division has won US$80m of new orders from the US Department of Defence. This is the final installment of the original US$150m framework agreement signed in January. US$57m is going to its Philadelphia based subsidiary, Alloy Surfaces, for its unique special material decoys.
