For the six months ended 30 June, Peter Hambro Mining reported a 117% increase in pretax profit to US$17.6m on turnover up 63% at US$59m. Diluted earnings rose 84% to 13.8 cents. The growth came through a combination of a 6% increase in attributable gold production to 108,363 ounces and a 36% increase in the average realised gold sales price to US$573 / ounce. As has always been the case, the company remains un-hedged. Hambro has developed a strong reputation for being among the lowest cost producers in the industry and in an environment where inflation has become rife, amazingly unit costs fell 9% to US$135 / ounce.
