Defence firm Chemring has announced the acquisition of NITEK, a US-based developer of robot and vehicle mounted mine detection systems for US$40m, including US$10m deferred. The acquisition usefully extends Chemring's detection capability in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal market, while its timing is excellent as NITEK has recently developed its first product and soon expects to be awarded contracts worth US$40-US$55m. Earlier, Chemring, which makes decoy countermeasures to protect aircraft from missile attacks as well as pyrotechnic products like signalling smoke and stun grenades, announced that trading in the four months to 31 August has been encouraging.
