To the untrained eye, Hargreaves Services, whose operations range from bulk haulage to minerals trading and coal mining, might appear to be a relic from the bad old days of empire building conglomerates. But as chief executive Gordon Banham points out, Hargreaves operates a unique business model with each piece of the jigsaw providing synergies and cross-selling opportunities. As a result the company  has experienced an electrifying period of growth with eps increasing more than seven-fold from 10.4p in 2005 to 76p in the year just ended. While Banham jokes that he has created a treadmill of high expectations, almost every year he has pulled a new rabbit out of the hat and this time is no different with a move into “green†...
