Shares in JD Sports have performed extremely well since we “buy†rated them at 234p in February with recent results prompting a spike to a new high of 629p. For the six months to 1 August revenues increased 8% to £324m while pretax profit before exceptional items rose 15% to £14.2m, ahead of the £13m-£14m consensus of analysts' expectations. Adjusted eps increased 15% to 20.5p while net cash was up from £3.4m to £5.9m.Encouragingly, like-for-like sales in both the Sports and Fashion divisions remained positive in the period, rising 0.3% and 3.1% respectively, while good control of costs helped gross margin hold firm at 48%.
