Shares in engineering contractor Kentz celebrated strong interim results by moving above £2 for the first time since its float in February ‘08. The company, which erects accommodation blocks and support infrastructure such as power, water, waste and telecoms for new build projects like LNG plants and oil terminals, achieved a 10% rise in pretax profit to US$18.5m for the six months to 30 June. Although turnover was virtually unchanged at US$329m the growth driver was an increase in operating margin from 4.8% to 5.4% as strong cost control mitigated an increase in the percentage of lower margin activities.
