Over the month I met with Michael Speakman, the CEO of Keller, the world’s largest geotechnical contractor, which uses a range of specialist drilling and other equipment to improve the ground on which large structures such as high rise blocks, bridges and tunnels are built. When it listed in 1994, Keller generated sales of c. £200m and underlying operating profit of c. £10m but fast forward to the pre-pandemic peak of 2019 and these had increased to £2,300m and £103.8m (CAGR of 9% and 10% respectively) while dividends have grown seven-fold to 35p.The geotechnical sector is a worth a vast £40billion and while Keller doesn’t play in China, Japan, Korea or Russia, that still leaves  a £15 billion market in which its share is around 13 ...
