The market turbulence caused shares in  French Connection tofall through our stop-loss even though six month  results to 31July were strong.  Although turnover rose just 2%, the increase inoperating margins from 9.0% to 9.9% drove  a 20% increase inprofit before tax to £10.3m. Earnings were up 26% to 37.3p.  The best performance came from  UK/Europe, which producedalmost all the £10.8m operating profit, driven by a near doubling inwholesale to £7m.  The latter benefited from management’s closeattention to the buying process to reduce the volume of discountedtrading.
