Following  investment in building its pipeline of new salesopportunities, Parkwood’s underlying operating profits rose just 7% to£0.65m, for the six months to June, on a 6% increase in turnover to£21.7m.  However, pretax profit increased 17% to £0.51m thanks toa lower interest charge.  One of the key reasons we recommendedParkwood last October was its increasing ability to win long-term PFIcontracts.  It now boasts three, of which the first, the operationof the Animal Defence Centre at Melton Mowbray (worth £2m sales a yearfor 25 years) started in January.
