Shares in oil & gas explorer and producer Soco have soared 150p since we recommended them in August. The catalyst was the news that its wildcat exploration well on the TGT structure in block 16-1 in Vietnam had tested water-free oil at a maximum rate of 9,432 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd). This find is likely to be of a very significant size and the results will be evaluated with a view to drilling an appraisal well there in due course.Soco now plans to drill a follow-on appraisal well at its previous high profile Vietnamese discovery, the CNV-3X well in block 9-2, which initially tested at a massive 13,040 boepd earlier this year.
