The encouraging aspect of Lavendon's interim results is that the softening economic outlook has not derailed its trading momentum, even though the weak share price suggests otherwise. For the six months to 30 June revenues increased 40% to £116m while pretax profit grew 43% to £11.9m. Eps rose 32% to 20.4p.  Net debt stands at £258m, while debt interest is covered 2.8 times by profits. Lavendon, which rents out powered access equipment such as scissor lifts to the construction industry, has shown plenty of resilience largely because of the introduction of onerous new health & safety at work legislation.
