With signs that the low interest rates are finally coaxing consumers  out of their shells, now looks a good time to invest in regional pubs operator Greene King, which has just unveiled a much more upbeat trading update than expected. In truth, subscribers shouldn't be too surprised as Greene King has always been a safe pair of hands, with its earnings having risen from 14.6p to 66.5p in the past fourteen years. And with the recession having led to substantial pub closures amongst its rivals our belief is that when the economy really improves competition should be less intense, with profits likely to pick up sharply.
