As trailed by its pre-close statement, financial spread betting firm London Capital's half year profits fell 37% to £3.75m on turnover that reduced 4% to £12.95m. But the group's net cash was still strong at £8.2m (down just £0.6m) giving it the confidence to maintain the full year dividend at 11p. The bug-bears causing the profit decline were lower interest income and increased costs, while revenue per customer fell from £1,035 in H2 2008 to £599 in H1 2009. That said there were positive developments such as a 71% jump in new account openings to 11,388 and an increase in UK spread betting client funds of 22% to £27.3m.
