The idea that a junior gold explorer might have the wherewithal to transform itself into a substantial FTSE-100 concern only seven years after listing is usually just the stuff of dreams. However, Peter Hambro Mining (POG), a gold and iron ore miner with a Russian-focused portfolio of assets, has astonishingly achieved just that with gold output increasing from 70,000 oz in 2002 to an expected 500,000 this year, marking it out as one of the top performers in the industry.
