Although shares in elderly residential homes operator Southern Cross have tread water since our last update in May, its Q3 results show the company moving in the right direction. During the period, the average occupancy of the mature portfolio was 87.5% and while down on the 89.8% from a year ago there was a small improvement towards the end of the quarter. This was less than analysts expected due to several factors including continued delayed admissions from Local Authorities and an increasing trend towards respite care.
