Shares in Informa have remained near their highs, helped by decent interims, which showed pretax profit rising 13% to £133m on revenues that fell 2% to £624m. Operating margins rose from 23% to 24.5% while net debt reduced by £80m to £906m. The business publishing activities, which encompass its academic and professional and commercial information divisions, again delivered a resilient performance with revenues of £320m broadly unchanged while cost cutting meant operating profits rose a smidge from £96m to £97.1m. This came in spite of headwinds from US educational budget cuts and slower financial subscriptions.
