Although gold has had a spectacular run, rising to a new high of US$1275 / oz , there are good reasons to believe this is just the start of another upward surge amid expectations that central banks will be net buyers of bullion for the first time in two decades. The shift comes amidst continuing fears over sovereign debt risk and further quantitative easing but the effect has been like financial Viagra for numerous quoted gold stocks, with TMI favourites such as Petropavlovsk, 1228p and Cluff Gold, 86p sitting at or near recent highs.
