As expected, shares in West China soared immediately after listing in Hong Kong, hitting a new high of HK$2.37, which after adjusting for the 50:1 share split and exchange rate, equates to 987p. With demand being strong the listing raised a slightly higher than expected HK$1,280 (£107m) through issuing 823.1m new shares. The strong share price performance also reflects the release of  a superlative set of interim results, which showed turnover increasing 110% to RMB1.2bn and profits rising 159% to almost RMB363m, well ahead of the 307m forecast in its prospectus.
