With the Met Office expected to announce that the summer of 2013 was amongst the top ten hottest since records began pub retailers have been amongst the biggest beneficiaries. Unsurprisingly Greene King has reported a strong update for the 18 weeks to 1 September. Its retail (managed pubs) division enjoyed a 4.6% increase in like-for-like sales in spite of tough comparables last year, which included the Jubilee and European football championships. Food enjoyed a 5.7% increase, with drinks sales rising 3.7%, while accommodation rose 6%, helped by a greater number of people holidaying in the UK.
