A presentation by commercial aircraft manufacturer Airbus disclosed the remarkable fact that world annual passenger traffic has increased from 0.2 trillion to over 5 trillion revenue kilometres in a 45 year period that included two oil crises, two Gulf wars, 9/11 and the banking meltdown. Airbus cites a plethora of factors behind this phenomenon including more people, bigger cities and more wealth with emerging markets spawning a large middle class, which will grow from 2.2 bn to 5.2 bn people by 2032.
