Analysts have long suspected that healthcare spending is highly correlated to economic growth, not only because in good times more people have the means to take out private medical insurance but also because higher GDP leads to greater tax revenues, which can then be ploughed into the NHS. Given that the UK’s economic fortunes are rising once again perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised at the phenomenal performance of Spire Healthcare, the second largest operator of private hospitals in the UK, which was introduced to the Full List in June at 210p and has quickly soared to 265p.
