The shares have closed towards their highs after Card Factory put out a strong trading update, with total sales growing 8%  (2.7% like-for-like growth) in the six months ended 31 July. A further 36 net new stores opened, bringing the estate to 800 stores and it expects to open 50 for the full year.Cash generation remains strong with net debt falling from £147m to £109m, leaving strong headroom against its recently extended bank facility of £200m.The group previously stated an intention to return surplus cash to shareholders and will provide more details at its half-year results on 22 September.Tipped at 268.5p in January ‘15, the shares have gained 40%.
