We bought into Hurricane Energy at 48p following a piece in our July issue and the shares have already surpassed our expectations with a move up to 56p. The reason for our interest was that Hurricane had made four large discoveries in the West of Shetland area in the North Sea (Lincoln, Lancaster, Whirlwind and Halifax) totalling a massive 2.4 billion barrels resources. These oil fields are in fractured basement reservoirs, which are less conventional than traditional sandstone formations because there’s historically little data.
