When Watches of Switzerland, a purveyor of luxury swiss watches such as Rolex, listed at 270p in May 2019 it could do no wrong and aided by well-heeled consumers redeploying un-used holiday budgets into fancy time pieces, the shares hit £15 in late 2021. This is backed by dynamic growth with revenue and EBIT profit CAGR of 16.2% and 40.2% between FY’15-’22. The shares had already come off with the cloudy economic outlook but investors were spooked last month when Rolex, WOSG’s largest customer and with whom it has longstanding supply agreements, acquired another retail partner, Bucherer and amidst fears it might cut out distributors like WOSG and sell direct to the consumer, the shares tanked over 20%.
