Coats Group - Trading ahead of expectations

Shares in industrial threads business Coats spiked to over £1, a record high, after interims were ahead of expectations, triggering upgrades. Sales grew 8% to US$741m and EBIT increased 26% to US$133m helped by the end of customer de-stocking and market share gains. The company sees ongoing recovery in Apparel & Footwear (sales +11% to US$574m) and an improving trend in Performance Materials (minus 5% to US$167m). Interestingly, the recycled thread category increased 141% to US$159m, a key driver of share gains, and is expected to reach US$300m by the year-end.
