 Soft drinks and cider group, Merrydown, has hit a purple patch in its fortunes to an extent that it can virtually do no wrong. The combination of strong sales growth and the benefits of a far reaching efficiency drive have had a remarkable impact on Merrydown's financial performance in the past two financial years ending 31 March, with its pretax profit more than  doubling  from £0.8m to £1.7m, while earnings have grown a staggering 157% from 2.1p to 5.4p.      Many people still associate Merrydown with its cider brand of the same name, but this has shrunk in importance in recent years.  Instead, Merrydown's biggest brand is Schloer (70% group sales), a grape-base ...
