Inter Link Foods, which makes own label and licenced cakes for supermarkets, has blazed a trail of success that few other small companies can match. Helped by several astute acquisitions, the company has quickly grown to become the largest player in the own label segment and second largest overall in a market that at retail prices is worth £1.1 billion. And its shareholders have captured substantial value along the way, with its turnover increasing twelve-fold to £98m and pretax profit rising a stunning fifteen-fold to £5.9m in the seven years since it floated on AIM.
