When new management were parachuted into Finsbury Foods four years ago with a brief to transform this former cash shell into a substantial cake making business, investors could have been forgiven for treating its me-too "buy and build" strategy with a healthy dose of scepticism. However, under the leadership of chief executive Dave Brooks, who we met with last month, the company has made a really good fist of it, with five acquisitions being completed so far. As a result, turnover is expected to soar to more than £75m in the year which ended 30 June, while £92m is pencilled in for the current year.
