While the recent fall in palm oil prices has cast a pall over the sector, New Britain Palm Oil has nevertheless produced record interim results. For the six months ended 30 June revenues increased 67% to US$176m, while pretax profit excluding biological assets rose 93% to US$68m. Eps were ahead 64% to 35.3 cents. Meanwhile strong cash flow, along with the proceeds from the float, meant cash balances rose from U$12m to almost US$145m. During the first half New Britain's estates, which are primarily based in Papua New Guinea, produced 667,000 fresh fruit bunches of palm oil and with its extraction rate rising 0.5% to 23.1% that meant a net yield of 168,082 tonnes of crude palm oil and almost 14,000 tonnes of palm kernel oil.
