Bookmaker William Hill issued a disappointing trading update, which noted that it will miss profit expectations for this year due to poor trading in July and an uncertain consumer outlook. Although revenues increased 5% to £515m, underlying earnings before interest, tax and amortisation fell from £145m to £134.6m in the six months to 30 June. Adjusted eps fell 28% to 11.9p. The trading performance was affected by several periods of unfavourable sporting results, while in January and February it was impacted by the cancellation of horseracing fixtures. In reaction analysts have slashed forecasts and with short-term trends likely to remain unfavourable, we will be inclined to reinvest elsewhere. ...
