Shares in Carphone Warehouse, our front-page write-up in June at 191p, have moved up smoothly to a new high of 232p following a strong Q1 update.Best Buy Europe (BBYE), its 50% owned joint venture, unveiled like-for-like revenue growth of 3.7% in its European stores, driven largely by sales of higher value smart phones, such as the iPhone 4. This more than offset a 1.1% reduction in sales of lower value pre-paid phones. Gross margins were robust and Carphone expects further improvement. Also in Europe, the new Wireless World format continues to perform well with 100 stores expected to be open by next March.
