The key takeaway from powered access platforms operator Lavendon’s first half update was a continuing improvement in its most profitable markets of the UK and Middle East, although dull markets refuse to acknowledge this. In the UK (42% estimated 2014 EBITDA) rental revenues rose 11% having benefited from price rises (Q1+2%, Q2+7%), higher utilisation from recovering demand (65% vs 64%) and a favourable mix improvement towards higher revenue generating equipment. At the same time ongoing self-help is enhancing profitability and ROCE.
