Like many housing focused retailers Topps’ shares have been hammered but ironically its Q3 results nearly hit the ball out the park. For the 13 weeks ended 2nd July like-for-like sales rose 6.2% in spite of strong comparatives a year ago (2015 Q3: +6.0%). Clearly its strategy of “out-specialising the specialists” is working and specific initiatives include a new digital brochure service allowing customers to create a bespoke brochure with content specific to the rooms and designs they are interested in.It’s also launched several new ranges providing customers with a natural look including stone and wood effect in a plank style format, while withdrawing its unpopular real wood flooring offer.
