Burford Capital - Shares spike 250p on results

The shares spiked over £2 to a new high of nearly £19 after Burford Capital reported results were ahead of expectations. The company, which lends money to law firms or large corporates in order for them to fund large corporate cases on a “no win no fee” or “no win low fee” basis, said interim results showed pretax profit up 14% to US$165m on sales that rose 17% to US$205.2m. Eps increased 21% to 77 US cents, while cash receipts encouragingly jumped 61% to US$299m leaving the balance sheet relatively under geared at 0.39x net debt / equity.As an example of the pace of growth at end of 2016, it had funded US$368m of commitments across 21 cases.
